Privacy Policy
Summary
Doggo is a mobile app for dog owners. We collect the information you give us when you sign up and use the app (your dog's profile, your check-ins, your photos, your location while you're using the map), store it on infrastructure we operate (Convex), and use it to make the app work. We don't sell your data, we don't run ad networks, and we don't share your information with anyone except a small set of service providers listed below.
1. Who we are
Doggo is operated by Paulius Masalskas as an independent developer ("we," "us"). You can contact us at any time at 0xpaulius@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
2a. Account information
- The email address associated with your Apple, Google, or email sign-in.
- An app-internal user ID generated when you create the account.
2b. Profile information you provide
- Your owner name and chosen username.
- Your dog's name, breed, gender, date of birth, size, bio, personality tags, and badges.
- An optional Instagram URL.
- Photos you upload (owner avatar, dog photo, cover photo, place photos, photos attached to posts).
- What you tell us during onboarding about the activities and goals you're interested in.
2c. Activity within the app
- Places you save, rate, photograph, or check in to.
- Reviews, ratings, notes, and comments you leave.
- Posts you share to the community feed.
- Walk sessions you record (distance, duration, dates, spots visited).
- Friend requests, friendships, and blocks.
- Reports you submit about other users' content.
2d. Location data
- When you grant the app location permission, we use your device's location to centre the map, find nearby places, and — if you start a walk — record the path of that walk. Location is processed on-device and only stored on our servers when it's part of content you submit (e.g. a check-in, a place pin, a recorded walk).
- We do not track your location in the background when the app is closed.
2e. Technical information
- Standard server-side request metadata (IP address, user agent, timestamps) needed to operate the service.
- Crash and error logs.
2f. Subscription information (if applicable)
- If you purchase a Doggo subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple and a subscription-status webhook is sent to us by our paywall provider (Superwall). We store your subscription status and expiry but never see your payment card.
3. How we use it
- To run the core features of the app: map, search, profiles, feed, walks, reviews, photos, and friends.
- To moderate user-generated content (text we publish is also checked by the OpenAI Moderation API — see Section 5).
- To respond when you report another user's content.
- To investigate abuse, fraud, or security incidents.
- To communicate with you when you email our support address.
4. What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't run ad networks or share data with advertisers.
- We don't use your photos or content to train machine-learning models for our own products. Content you submit may be transiently processed by the moderation provider listed in Section 5 to enforce our Community Guidelines.
5. Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the app. Each receives only what they need to do their job:
- Convex — hosts our backend database, files (photos), and serverless functions. All user data sits in Convex.
- Mapbox — serves map tiles. When you view the map, Mapbox receives the coordinates you're viewing.
- Apple / Google sign-in — handles authentication and gives us the email address you signed up with.
- OpenAI (Moderation API) — receives the text content of new posts, comments, reviews, captions, and notes for safety classification only. We do not send images, account identifiers, or any other data.
- Superwall — manages our paywall and forwards subscription status to us. Payment processing is handled by Apple, not us.
We may disclose information when required by law, when needed to enforce our Terms of Use or Community Guidelines, or to prevent imminent harm.
6. Retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account inside the app), we immediately delete your profile, dog profiles, posts, comments, reviews, photos, ratings, check-ins, walks, friend requests, friendships, blocks, and active sign-in sessions from the live database.
Some content may remain in routine database backups for up to 30 days before being overwritten. Anonymous safety records of content we removed or that you reported under our Community Guidelines may be retained longer as an audit trail — these no longer link to your account but help us comply with App Store rules and respond to ongoing safety investigations.
7. Your choices
- Access & correction. You can view and edit your dog profile, owner profile, photos, and content from inside the app.
- Delete content. Posts, comments, photos, ratings, and reviews can be deleted from the app.
- Delete your account. Open the app and go to Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. You can also email 0xpaulius@gmail.com from the address tied to your account if you can't reach the in-app button for any reason.
- Block other users. Use the ··· menu on any post or profile, or Settings → Blocked Accounts.
- Report content. Use the ··· menu on any post, comment, photo, or profile. We respond within 24 hours.
- Revoke location. iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Doggo.
8. Children
Doggo is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
9. International users
Our service providers operate primarily in the United States and the European Union. By using Doggo you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in those regions.
10. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we'll update the "Last updated" date and, for significant changes, notify you inside the app.
11. Contact
